Zwartkops tickets available online. Early booking recommended

With Zwartkops Raceway’s Passion for Speed Festival a little over two weeks away on the weekend 28-29 January, race fans would be prudent to book tickets at their soonest convenience. The annual event, which has long been a highlight of the Pretoria racetrack’s season for many a year, is back to international status and open to spectators.

Fan access however remains limited and on a first come, first served basis amid lingering lockdown restrictions. Tickets can be purchased right away online via www.zwartkops.co.za/tickets/passion-for-speed-2022/. Adult access is R200.00, it’s R120 for students and kids under 12 are free.

As always, the classic Zwartkops Passion for Speed offers something for everyone. The spectacular weekend of racing welcomes both international drivers, who will drive local cars, and spectators back to enjoy a full program of racing, parades and off-track excitement alongside local competitors who raced alone last year. Among the highlights, Zwartkops is most excited about the 21st birthday Legends of the 9 hour races, which are set to be among the highlights of an epic weekend.

Legends celebrates the American giants of racing in South Africa. From the big, red 500 horsepower Kyalami 9 Hour Ford Galaxie that Sarel van der Merwe made famous at Passion for Speed races over the years, to the Smokey Yunnick NASCAR Chevelle handed to Jeff Kruger to tame. Add Ben Morgenrood and Josh Broome's Basil van Rooyen tribute Mustangs, Colin Ellison’s Ford Thunderbolt and Jonathan du Toit’s Chevy Nova, Hennie Groenewald in the powerful Mercury Comet, Chevy Camaros, more Mustangs, and a Fairlane too.

They will be kept honest by a nimble pack of four-cylinder racers. Carel Pienaar's Lotus Cortina, Francesco Lombardi and Mark du Toit’s Alfa Romeo GTs, Marc Miller and Roger Houston's Alfa Giulias and others will recreate those epic South African saloon car duels of the ‘60s. But there’s far more to the Zwartkops Passion for Speed. The traditional Passion for Speed TT for Le Mans Sports & GT, International Sports Prototypes and Pre’74 Trans Am cars are all long time favourites among fans and competitors alike.

Zwartkops’ regular Pre-1966 series will see local stars compete against overseas drivers in HRSA and Midvaal Pre-’80 Saloons, Charlies SuperSpar Historic Pursuit, Marlboro Pre’66 Legends of the 9 Hour, Little Giant Production Cars and Historic Single Seaters too. If that's not enough, several top contemporary classes will race their opening ’22 championship rounds at Zwartkops next weekend. They include the GT3 Ferraris, Lambos Porsches of the G&H Transport Extreme Supercars, V8 Supercars, BMW Car Club and Lotus Challenge.

The Zwartkops Passion for Speed evolved out of the annual International Historic Series races, when David Piper led a fine contingent of international sports, GT and other racing cars and drivers to South Africa every year. Besides all that on track action, the weekend also offers Greats of the Past Invitational, F1 and other exotic racing demonstrations, and a wide array of off-track attractions for a truly spectacular festival of racing.
