Mostert does it in three in a row style

A race driver’s first victory is always the most poignant — it’s the one he or she will cherish the most and remember forever, so Saturday’s Killarney Rok Cup races will surely linger long in seven year old Luan Mostert’s mind because not only did the little guy take his first win, but he totally dominated proceedings to move into the lead of the SA Micro Rok title chase. Mostert had already done an amazing job in Round 1 up at Vereeniging, so his folks decided to buy him a kart to complete the championship and Luan repaid the investment in fine style at his home round.

“I am so happy with my first win!” a delighted Luan beamed. “We practiced like crazy to have a home track advantage because I had only done half the track in Cadets before and I got to learn the full track well. “Then our prayers were answered when it rained and I smashed it from race 1 to win all three heats and take my first ever win in racing. “I not only won the one race but all three, so I am so happy.

“I also raced Cadets, but it was tougher there — my engine was on point but there was confusion at the start of two of the races I got the worst of it. “I would like to thank Kito and Ricky Perdigao and my awesome team as well as Etienne from RKT for a great engine to make this a weekend I will never forget.” Luan is now looking forward to racing the next round of the Rok Cup up at Zwartkops on 2 June, before the Rotax Max African Open up there and then the last round of Rok Cup in Port Elizabeth in July.
