New colours and a sponsor well earned

Giordano Lupini heads to Killarney’s 19 May Wingfield Motors Power Series races looking for a break in his recent run of bad luck — so much so that his familiar Golf 1 GTi will look completely different in a fresh coat of yellow paint as he takes to the track in Saturday’s Burly Pro GTi Challenge races. 17-year old Franschhoek matriculant Lupini takes a leaf out of his great-grandfathers book in his move to yellow at Killarney, which hue also signals a new partner for the team in Accelerate Special Gasoline - Powered by SA Oil.

“My grandfather Mario always tells me the story about how his dad decided that enough was enough and he painted his red Formula 1 Cooper Maserati yellow for the 1961 Killarney van Riebeeck Trophy race,” Giordano pointed out. “John Love promptly drove the yellow Scuderia Lupini Cooper to it’s only victory that weekend, so in Gigi’s spirit, our Accelerate/La Vie de Luc/CIR Golf 1 GTi is now yellow. “We have raced black cars for three years since I stepped up from a black kart three years ago and we are due a bit of better luck, so here’s to this historic move bringing more of the same it brought Gigi and John Love!”

Giordano also welcomes a new partner on board on Saturday in the form of Accelerate Special Gasoline, a new race fuel from independent energy company SA Oil, which recently ran its #FuelMyRace competition to seek out young racing talents who could best promote the new brand. “I found out about the competition in December and entered straight away,” Giordano explained “I was chosen one of six finalist racers from all the applicants two months ago and I was asked to create a video around two drums of SA Oil Accelerate 102 Special Gasoline supplied to us for the last race.

“That bit was easy — the fuel really proved its worth and we had fun creating the video and we learned last week that I have been selected as the first of Accelerate Special Gasoline's Racing Ambassadors! “I am absolutely delighted to be part of the SA Oil team, which suits us down to our new yellow colours and I look forward to proudly flying the Accelerate Special Gasoline flag high, starting this weekend."

“We’re excited to have Giordano on-board, as the very first brand ambassador from our #FuelMyRace competition, "Marie Rocher, Manager: Media and Marketing, SA Oil," confirmed. "We love his car’s new look, and are looking forward to seeing him compete on the track!”

“Last race was one to forget," Giordano admitted.  "Fortunately we've had a lot of time to sort, straighten and spray the car at acciDent Guru and through my MRD team under Brian Maunder. “We tested in the week and now I can’t wait to race on Saturday.  “Special thanks to SA Oil for putting its trust in me and thank you as always to our loyal partners, La Vie de Luc Mineral Water and CIR Construction — now I just need to make like John Love on Saturday — I’ve almost forgotten what it feels like to win, so it would be great to find out again — bring it on!”

Giordano races in the wild Class C Brat Pack in the Burly Pro GTi Challenge and the action starts early on Saturday with a full program of car racing including the Campos 600 SA Endurance race — See you at Killarney!
