Extreme edge for Border regional races

The East London Grand Prix Circuit is building up to the first of several bumper race weekends when the G&H Extreme Supercars join the regular Border Regional Championships at the idyllic racetrack Saturday 22 June. The spectacular Extreme Supercars visit East London to bring an incredible bonus to local race fans, with among the fastest machinery in SA set to race flat out on the fastest racetrack in Africa.

Headed by East London favourite Jaki Scheckter (Drizit Lamborghini Huracan) taking on Charl Arangies splendid and sonorous Stradale Aston Martin Vantage V12 and Franco Scribante’s mad Porsche 917 Turbo, expect Sam Hammond (Trinity Lamborghini), Gianni Giannoccaro (G&H Lamborghini) and Jonathan du Toit (Trans Africa Ferrari F430) to join the fun too.

Other likely Supercar visitor runners include Johan de Bruyn and Ant Blunden’s Porsche GT3s and Darren Winterboer (Barons BMW M3), to ensure that the thrills can only be extreme as these wild machines head down through Potters Pass and Rifle Range bents toward the beachside Copabana hairpin at over 300km/h!

Of course the local racing will add to the regular great atmosphere of a Border Motorsport Club race weekend, where Bevan Schwarz’ Class A+ Corvette will take on Johan van der Westhuizen's Hi-Way Motors A Camaro, Class B drivers Quentin Lessing (Treadz Mitsubishi), Kean Barnard’s GB Fitment Harper V8, Bruce Butler’s Class B HR Focus Nardini, Leeroy Randall (Nissan 200SX), while Shaun Gradwell has now lightened his BMW even more in search of that little extra pace to better tackle those V8s.

A little further back, Dr. Bevan Choudree’s rapid Strictly Polo Turbo, Julian Herman, Philip Wiese (BMW) and Richard Clarke’s Honda Civic will fight for Class C honours ahead of Class D lads Troy Marais, Cameron Hall (Champion BMW). The Class E Brat Pack will see East London's fearless racing ladies, Melindre (HR Focus Opel) and Cherne Marais (GB Golf) and Ashton Nel (Pro CV Golf) fighting it out with Craig Borges, Sharniel Holmes (Selego Golf), Sean Heideman, Brady Choudree and Class F driver, Eli Vergara.

East London’s brilliant Historic Racing gang will be at it again too, with the V8 Capri Peranas of Danian Staffan (du Randt’s), Derek Boy and Alex Gudmanz taking on Mike Forsyth's Backdraft Cobra, while Class C duo Brendan Smith (Escort) and Darron Gudmanz (Car Connexion Mazda Rotary) always entertain. Add Donovan Collins (BMW), Gary Schulz and Quentin Lessing’s Class D Escorts, Graham Lessing’s Cortina and Class E runners, Andrew Karshagen’s Capri and Graeme Musto's Mini and you are in for a classic racing treat.

Don’t forget the Border Motorcycle racers where Jason Lamb and his Spindrift Kawasaki has a target on his back with Chris Webster, Gerrit Nel, Jono Webster, Nathan Ashington and Travis Warne, Bradley Rehse followed, Michael Smal, Sazi Patela, Lodewyk Hattingh and Gerrie Havenga all taking aim to end his rampant run of late.

The East London Grand Prix Circuit is at the end of Potters Pass off the R72 Settlers Way, race fans can purchase early bird tickets from the BMSC Office, at several outlets in the city or at the gate on raceday. Contact 043 736 4024, office@bmsc.co.za or visit www.bmsc.co.za for more.

The first of a series of great races including the forthcoming Extreme Festival nationals and the SA Endurance Series a little later, the visiting Supercars are not worth missing.
